As sexting gets even an even greater profile in the new update to Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance from September and the number of incidents continues to grow, the Safer Internet Centre has released some sound practical guidance on how to go about handling an incident in a school. The key message from the start is not to panic but to take a calm look at the situation and review what has gone on leading up to the incident. By using the guidance and asking the key questions and investigating the incident, it will help schools to identify the right route to follow.
Managing an incident such as these is one for the Designated Safeguarding Lead as many of these cases have many other factors including previous behavioral and pastoral issues attached to them and don’t just stand alone as a single act. Without this knowledge of the surrounding issues, the wrong pathway could well be followed.
