Following the recent incident we blogged about of a teenage boy having the incident recorded against him, an interesting blog post has been put up by the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) giving their side of the story.
In this article, NPCC Lead for Children and Young People, Deputy Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney explains the reasons why the Police did what they did and what the consequences of it all will be. It is interesting to hear their response as in many cases we only hear one side of the story. The bottom line appears to be that they had no choice but to take this action as they became involved.
Will this case stop young people from send such images in the future? We doubt it but we have to make them aware of all the consequences of such actions including the potential for bullying and other online abuse. The potential legal impacts as well as the long term damage to their reputation could be far reaching, the internet, like an elephant, never forgets!
